In general, the recommended frequency for dyeing is  4-6 weeks , also considering that  hair grows about 1 centimeter – 1 and a half centimeters per month . If the goal is to cover a few gray hairs, or if the hue is different from your natural color, this time frame can be considered the most suitable. Otherwise, in case the color approaches your  natural color , you can also wait up to  6-8 weeks . Anticipating the times compared to four weeks could in fact weaken the hair and damage it, causing split ends or making it lacking in vitality. However, if the white hair is noticeable and the detachment of the regrowth is too evident, you can do a touch up only on the roots even after 15 days. A complete tint is necessary when the hair is dull and dull.

How long does a hair dye last

Hair dyes have different durations depending on their type. let’s see the most well-known colors:

Permanent colors

Permanent  dyes , the ones most used by hairdressers, allow you to obtain an intense and resistant color. They contain oxidants and are therefore suitable for lightening or darkening the natural color,  they cover 100% of white hair  and can also   completely change  your look , because they include a very wide range of colors. They have a rather long duration, even longer than  6-8 weeks , after which the color begins to fade. They are available  both  with and without ammonia: the latter have a less invasive impact on the hair, but must be used more frequently if the goal is to effectively cover gray hair.

Semi-permanent shades

The  semi-permanent dyes,  created to last less than the permanent ones (up to about  6 weeks ), are used to cover the first white hair, to make the natural color more shiny or to create the “tone on tone” effect. They are also perfect for following new trends or for some “head shot”, if you want to opt for pastel colors, or for blue or purple.

Temporary shades

Temporary  dyes  contain a very low amount of oxidant and  last as long as a few shampoos . They can be used when you want to try out a new color, but are not entirely convinced of the result that could be achieved on your face. Or to change your look for a special occasion.

How to make the color last longer

Another solution could be to choose a plant-based coloring such as  Botanea by L’Oreal . This  dye  is  100% vegetable . It contains three main ingredients – indigo, cassia and henna – and manages to ensure an excellent  natural result . It colors white hair and can be found in a wide range of shades, so you can also customize the color.

Finally, using shampoos and other  professional products , created specifically for colored hair, you can help protect them and make them more beautiful between one color and another, extending the times.
